Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Break

NOT-EVERY-CHILD
They May Take a Summer Break But Their Hunger Doesn’t.

During the last month of school most children are day dreaming about the lazy days of summer – sleeping in, playing with friends and family vacations.  But for the Ohio children who rely on free or reduced-price school breakfasts and lunches, summer break presents the very real dilemma of not knowing if there will be enough food for them to eat at home.  For those families, not having the availability of school meals places a burden on already strained budgets.

1 in 5 Ohio children live in food-insecure homes, meaning they do not know where their next meal will come from. They need your help.

Your donation today can help Children’s Hunger Alliance provide healthy meals to children who desperately need them this summer.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of Ohio’s food-insecure children.

HOW DOES YOUR DONATION MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

In the city of Painesville in Lake County, Ohio, a majority of the children in the school district live in poverty and free meals during the school year help address the hunger issues they face daily.  Painesville City Local Schools needed to find a way to help food-insecure children in their community access healthy meals during the summer. With the help of Children’s Hunger Alliance, the district purchased a trailer that they converted to a mobile unit called “The Lunch Box.”

Last summer “The Lunch Box” traveled to five locations each day–tripling the number of lunches served to over 12,000 meals!

Children’s Hunger Alliance works to replicate this scenario across the state of Ohio. Your support helps fund our work with summer enrichment programs and school districts across the state to increase the number of meals food-insecure children can receive on summer break.

• In Columbus, we will provide healthy meals and snacks to five summer feeding sites in partnership with the Salvation Army.
• In Monroe County in the Ohio Valley we are working with a local school district to use school vehicles to deliver food to 10 feeding sites throughout the county.
• In Toledo, we are collaborating with the community to expand mobile feeding at local parks in both Lucas and Wood counties.
• In Highland County in Southwestern Ohio we are supporting the efforts of a school district to purchase a food truck to deliver meals to five sites where children are present during the summer.

We know you agree with us:  No child should experience hunger.

These children are Ohio’s future and there is so much at stake for them. Please help us feed more children this summer by making a donation in support of our mission.
