More than 40 community and business leaders from throughout Northwest Ohio attended our November 1 networking event focused on engaging leaders to advocate for the needs of Lucas County’s 25,000 children who suffer from food insecurity. Among those in attendance were Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson and three of the city’s former mayors who all remain deeply committed to improving the lives of at-risk children in the community.

Attendees enjoyed networking and a presentation detailing our efforts in Northwest Ohio and the need for childhood hunger prevention throughout the region. Children’s Hunger Alliance CEO Mary Lynn Foster emphasized the need to address hunger for children of all ages – from preschoolers to students through grade 12. The YMCA of Toledo spoke about how Children’s Hunger Alliance helps provide free afterschool meals to children who are at-risk of hunger. The children are able to focus more during tutoring sessions after enjoying a healthy snack, and a hot meal served at the end of the day ensures they will not go to bed on an empty stomach.

Thank you to Marty Lahey, owner of Manhattan’s Bar & Grill, for hosting the event.
