Children’s Hunger Alliance 27th Annual Menu of Hope

To Discuss Pandemic, Effects of Hunger on Children’s Health and Learning

Online streaming broadcast available to all with an interest in children’s hunger issues

Columbus, Ohio [February 11, 2022] – Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA), a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Ohio, will host its 27th annual “Menu of Hope” fundraiser via online streaming on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 from noon – 1 p.m.

2022’s Menu of Hope will include a panel interview segment to uncover the ramifications of hunger among children, including the detrimental effects of hunger on children’s health and their ability to learn in school. The three panelists hail from different regions of Ohio and represent a passionate advocate and public servant who struggled with food insecurity as a single mother; an educator on the frontlines of ensuring his school district’s kids get enough healthy food to eat; and a pediatrician speaking to the health effects of hunger among children. The panelists are: Erica C. Crawley, President, Franklin County Commissioners; Steve Denny, Executive Director of Business Affairs at Winton Woods City Schools (near Cincinnati); and Elizabeth Zmuda, D.O., Director of Medical Education, Doctor’s Hospital at Ohio Health.

Hunger touches the lives of more than 1 in 4 children in Ohio. That means over 700,000 children live in food-insecure homes, not knowing where they will get their next meal. The COVID-19 Pandemic only exacerbated this insecurity. Children’s Hunger Alliance, in collaboration with community partners throughout the state, helps provide millions of meals each year to children who need them most. CHA’s services were needed more than ever in 2020 and 2021.

“COVID, and the subsequent closures, rocked our world,” said Judy Mobley, president and chief executive officer of Children’s Hunger Alliance. “We had to create a new way of getting food to kids, find new partners, and take on the role of packing and distributing meals due to the business interruptions COVID generated with our vendors,” she continued. In fall 2020, CHA opened our own food packing warehouse, allowing us to support the increase in demand for our ready-to-eat meals, and through the generosity of our donors, volunteers and partners, we were able to provide over 9.9 million meals across Ohio. ”

The hard work of the organization’s numerous corporate and community partners, including schools, childcare centers and dedicated volunteers, will also be recognized and honored during 2022’s Menu of Hope.

Children’s Hunger Alliance invites members of the corporate community to join them by making a patron gift to the Menu of Hope event on February 22, and/or by advocating within their company to become an annual donor to the mission of Working together to FEED OHIO’S KIDS. Businesses can also get involved by volunteering to pack and distribute meals to kids when they are on school recess.

Individuals can get involved by donating or volunteering their time to help CHA pack meals for children in need across the state, and/or by advocating for CHA’s work within their local communities.
