An obvious
key to Feeding hungry minds and bodies® is providing nutritious meals and snacks to children.
One of the ways Children's Hunger Alliance accomplishes this goal is through the USDA afterschool meal and snack
program. This program is designed to provide balanced and nutritious meals to children 5-18 years of age at no
cost to the afterschool site or child. We are currently serving over 1000 youth per day in Franklin County.
Our Afterschool
Nutrition & Education team advocates the USDA afterschool meal and snack program and assists sponsored
sites in obtaining meal reimbursement from the federal program. In Franklin County, Children's Hunger Alliance
sponsors the afterschool programs in collaboration with LifeCare
Alliance and the Ohio Department of Education.
Meals are served at a variety of locations throughout the county, including:
- Boys and Girls Clubs,
- Settlement Houses,
- Recreation Centers,
- Homeless Shelters and
- Churches.
This program is vital to our vision and mission and it reaches those most in need. Over 90% of the children
we serve live in households at or below 185% of the poverty line.
